LELOUN filmfest to screen ‘Old Man & Singer’

The LELOUN International Film Festival in Syria has scheduled to screen ‘Old Man & Singer’, a documentary by an Iranian filmmaker.

Made by Amir Osanlou, the documentary was filmed in Aleppo, Syria.

It narrates the story of an old man from Aleppo and his friend who are trying to make a house after six years of war in Syria.

A synopsis of ‘Old Man & Singer’ reads, “Hope disappears in the shadow of war. Everything is ambiguous so much that no one can be sure if this is the last moment they will live. Life still goes on and that is the legend. Abu Umar, famous for being the sound of hope, is a living legend. He rebuilds his life against desperate situations and that is why they call him the sound of hope”.

The documentary is the recipient of the Golden Statue of Martyr Avini Award at the 13th Cinema Verite, the Iran International Documentary Film Festival.

The doc has so far gone on screen at some global events, including the Ischia Film Festival in Italy and the Visions du Réel Film Festival in Switzerland.

The LELOUN International Film Festival focuses on works by filmmakers from 150 countries around the world on topics such as peace, human rights and the rights of women and children.

The first edition of the Syrian event will be held on September 21-25, 2020 in the city of Afrin.
